Welcome to AUSUS Magazine. AUSUS stands for AUS(Australia) and US (United States of America). The magazine was formed in January 2004 to give voice to professionals working in the entertainment industry between Australia and America. Interviewees include people working both in front of the camera ( the actors), and also those working behind the scenes, such as directors, casting directors, producers, cinematographers, independent filmmakers, etc. The magazine focuses on those connected to either country but in the future will expand to include professionals from other countries as well. It is my hope that people accessing the site will do so not only to have information to use to promote their own careers, but also to learn more about people working in the various other more ‘unheralded’ positions in the industry as well. Above all, I hope you enjoy the terrific content and information the magazine has to offer and please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions.

Sincerely Yours

Michael Preston

CASTING DOWN UNDER
Australian casting director, Ann Robinson, shares her thoughts…

To an actor, a casting director is the link between them and their next job. Generally, the agent will call the actor, email the script and instruct them to be at such and such an office to audition for such and such a part. To a director or producer, the casting director is the person they have hired to provide them with a number of actors for each part. So it should be just a matter of the casting director calling up the agents and asking to see x, y and z actors. Right? Well not always. (more)
